Alaska's Izembek National Wildlife Refuge is a place few people have heard of but its fate is important to the protection of public lands everywhere in the United States. There has been pressure for nearly four decades to build a road through Izembek’s federally designated wilderness. For half a century, Izembek has been recognized for the ecological value of its unique wetlands and their importance to migratory birds. It was the first place in the United States to be designated under the RAMSAR Convention as a Wetland of International Importance. It is a spectacular wild land of bears, salmon, walrus, volcanoes, and glaciers. Join Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Gerrit Vyn as he explores one of Alaska's great wildlife areas to document it's wildlife and wilderness, most for the first time. Before it's too late.
